About Ms. Julie Clarke |
My Philosophy of Music Education |
I am so excited to have the opportunity to be teaching at Pleasant Ridge School this year! I have loved music ever since I was young, and have been involved in almost every musical opportunity since. I have been in marching band, orchestra, concert band, choir, musical pit orchestras, jazz band and pep bands. Throughout my musical career I have had the great pleasure of traveling to Jamaica and Serbia to teach and perform. I have also performed at such venues as The House of Blues, Symphony Center, and The Jazz Showcase. I graduated from Elmhurst College in February of 2013 with a degree in Music Education. I am a trombone player at heart but love all music.
In addition to music, I love to bake, hike, and spend time with my dog, Cassee! I am so excited for the upcoming school year and look forward to sharing many musical memories. |
I believe that music (and the performing arts as a whole) have intrinsic value and are vitally important to the healthy development of young people.
Music is a universal language. It reinforces other area of curriculum such as language arts, math, and social studies. Music relates directly to history and cultural heritage, and facilitates the understanding of other cultures through music. The performing arts engage children in all aspects of the human experience and is a vehicle for creativity and self-expression. Music is an opportunity for visible success and achievement in the school and community, and allows students to develop life skills for personal and professional success. I believe that it is every student's fundamental right to a music education. My Mission StatementI believe that every student is a musician, and every student deserves the opportunity to create. In my classroom, students will experience a safe and positive learning environment where they will be encouraged to explore, create, and compose.
